Termites fumigation & severe chemical allergies: how long after is it safe to return?
Question by Vinyl: Termites fumigation & severe chemical allergies: how long after is it safe to return?
My apt complex is sprayed for termites in 3 days! I am an MCS patient. (Multiple Chemical Sensitivities) and severely allergic to all kinds of chemicals. The place will be tented for 2 days. Landlord planning to move me back to that building the 3rd day.
1) Do they leave apt. doors & windows open when they spray? 2)Whether yes or no, do the fumes invade the interior and risk contaminating my clothes (there is no closet, they’re out in the open) papers, etc?
3) How long should someone MCS like me stay away to avoid reaction to lingering toxins? Do they instantly evaporate when the tent comes off or do they linger in the foundation? I can’t afford to move out, I’m being moved to a different building.
I have very limited internet time & googled it but cannot find any thing so far. Please help me, I only found out today and don’t have that much time to plan and research it. Thanks to all of you for your kind help, I appreciate your time. xxoo =)
There is a language barrier between my landlord and I, doesn’t understand what I say and vice versa so cannot ask him. Also the weekend no one is picking up the phone and I need to figure out this fast, hence why I need your help, kind Yahooers/Answerers! Thanks!! :+)

I also suffer from MCS,and I feel for you so much! Apartment living and MCS do not mix well,I can understand about the communication problems. It is never safe to return to your apartment once it has been sprayed the chemicals can off gas for days even if you cannot smell any fumes. My best advice for you is to locate an environmentally safe place to live its not easy I know! I got an expensive air purifier called IQ air, especially made for MCS…….that may help you, also look into a gas mask from achooallergy.com.

We have had a severe lice problem in our building and It was sprayed and safe to enter after a few hours. Now someone with MCS may have to wait more but it is symptomatic to each individual. You may have to wait longer. So I understand the apprehension as I have COPD and was worried as well. I’m doing fine and bug free.

Leave the windows open, run a fan and get some house plants. It can’t be much worse than the air we’re breathing now.
