Q&A: Does the medication Diovan have the same ingredients in it as the medication Ativan?
Question by charmainevoisine: Does the medication Diovan have the same ingredients in it as the medication Ativan?
The reason that I am asking this question is because I can I cannot use “Ativan” as I have a chemical sensitivity to “Ativan” and it seems when I use Diovan I get headaches almost to the point of migraines and this leaves me to wonder if Diovan has the some of the same compound ingredients as “Ativan” If anyone can help me would be appreciated – thanks.

It really doesn’t have much to do with the compound ingredients that either of them are composed of. The Diovan has such side effects as headache, dizziness, fatigue, anxiety, insomnia, abdominal pain, gas, dry mouth…there are quite a few more. Are you taking any OTC medications while you are taking this drug? That could have an effect on this too. If the headaches are almost like migraines you really need to consult your physician ASAP.

Diovan (valsartan) is an antihypertensive. Seems to me your medication doseage may be wrong, and your blood pressure may be dropping too low (this would cause the headache, as well as dizziness if you have it). The question may be if you are taking any other anti-hypertensives thereby again making the doseage too much for your body. Speak with your doctor regarding your symptoms when taking this medication. He/She needs to watch your blood pressure for starters…
Diovan is in no way related to Ativan. Diovan is Valsartan (an Angiotensin Receptor Blocker or ARB) and Ativan is Lorazepam (a benzodiazepine like Valium, but much shorter acting). The headache you are experiencing is an adverse effect associated with this drug but should be taken seriously as headaches are a possible physical sign of some complications due to hypertension (high blood pressure). There is no way for anyone on Yahoo! to determine if the dose is too high. You should see your doctor to make sure that it is just an adverse effect and not some indicator of another problem. Your doctor could also change the medication to something else if the adverse effects are affecting your quality of life to such a large degree.
